FB Facial Recognition, Social TV and Do Work Son

After a three-week hiatus, I bring you this week’s edition of Five for Friday. Apologies if you’ve noticed that my publishing schedule has slowed a bit, but I have really been swamped with the new role evolving and also really just trying to spend as much time with Megatron as we get ready to welcome Baby Espo Numero Dos in a short period of time. You only get one chance to impact the life of your child so I plan on living that up, especially during transitory times. How the hell have you been? Miss connecting with a bunch of you folks but promise to be around more and would welcome anyone interested in guest posting from time to time (if interested drop me a line to the email in the about me section). So hopefully you all are getting ready for an exciting weekend of football, but also say good-bye to the summer. Look forward to catching up soon – have a great one.

Facebook considers adding profile photos to facial recognition – with great power comes great responsibility. Let’s hope that this one can come with good things from Facebook. The deals based on facial recognition could be interesting (more here) but it could also be pretty dam weird as well.

Twitter Acquires Social TV Tracker Trendrr – this move is great from Twitter. Let’s hope that it also comes along with an improved ad platform to mesh with this additional data set.

There is no substitute for doing the work – I dig this post from Gary Vaynerchuck. As folks in social roles move up the ladder at their company or agency, it’s easy for them to lose track of the true work needed to get stuff done.

125 shopping days left: Retailers start Xmas deals – man Christmas is coming really quick this year.

Matt Cutts: Google +1s Don’t Lead to Higher Ranking – this is a really good look at Google+ and what it means and does not mean.

Howie Goldfarb 🙂 Thanks Howie, just seeing now… FB picks no go this year due to a break with old sponsor. Thinking about doing ones next year with a 3-year old picking the FB winners.
