Social Media: Australian Society of Travel Writers
In November last year, I spoke on social media and the impact it has on the Travel Writers industry. Great group – both speakers and audience. I was on a panel and then ran a bit of a workshop. I’m convinced that anyone currently in the writing/communicating industry will do fantastically well in social media….

Anyway sorry for the delay, but you can download the Social Media and Travel Writers presentation from Slideshare or just flick through the slides above. š

Hey Laurel
I found slides: 23, 28 and 50 to be particularly useful in summarising so much good thinking. I’d so love to hear you speak more about slides 55 and 56 though.
I’m sure you instilled confidence in your audience to get stuck in. There’s a travel writer on the Sunshine Coast who’s doing well (you probably know her): http://www.getinthehotspot.com
Best wishes,
Matt
Thanks for the shout out Matt, I appreciate that. I know Laurel – just saw you on TV last week and have been following you on Twitter for a while:)
Like you Laurel Iām convinced that anyone currently in the writing/communicating industry will do fantastically well in social media.
But there is a fear of the unknown to be overcome and a learning curve to be surmounted.
I’ve been very lucky with my first blog and have now written a book called Successful Blogging in 12 Simple Steps and set up a new blog at successfulblogging.com to encourage, motivate and help writers get into blogging.
I know many people parcel blogging off as part of social media but it’s a very different strategy from Twitter or Facebook and offers a highly powerful and cost effective way to market an existing business (in travel or otherwise) or launch or relaunch a writing career. It’s certainly done wonders for me and that’s why I want everyone to get into it.
Of course not everyone will and you do have to have special qualities (eg. motivation, passion, perseverance) to get into and succeed with blogging but the fearless and fantastic few could do rather nicely for themselves if they put their minds to it.
Thank you for sharing your slides here and getting people clued up on the fantastic opportunities available to us:)
