Twitter recently announced new rate limits on how many “hits” to the API it will allow. Twitter is changing the number of times the application can do that from 350 per hour to 60. In this diagram taken from the Twitter developer blog they break Twitter’s ecosystem up into 4 quadrants.

You may want to start by searching only blogs, or only Twitter or videos for example. Gather links for their Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Linkedin profiles at a minimum. We also invest in the tools we need to be able to drill down to the nuts and bolts quickly so we don’t have to do all this work by hand anymore.

Both stations are active on Facebook, which seemed to be much more popular than Twitter with most of the stations I talked to at PRPD. KUT uses a lot of different social media tools. The station supplied pledge pages for bands entered and social media tools to connect with their fans.

Meerkat and Periscope are being used as broadcasting tools for the most part. Both apps allow some engagement with your Twitter following, and Meerkat also gives the option to connect to your Facebook account. Sure, there is conversation in the comment stream but frankly, in a buzy stream it can hard to respond and focus. Bottom line.

I follow almost 4,000 people on Twitter , over 1500 on Linkedin , and more on Facebook , Google+ , blogs , forums, a zillion social networks, wikis and more. Turn off Twitter. Leaving Twitter open in your browser all day is distracting. Both tools allow me to monitor and update multiple accounts which is great.

Frankly it’s not the most intuitive network and there aren’t a lot of tools that make the UI easier to manage. I like to say Google+ combines the best of Twitter and Facebook on one network.
