I wrote a post about the potential of Twitter to buy TweetDeck just two weeks ago. (To be fair, that first posted on my employer’s blog.). So what happens now? A lot of doom and gloom if you believe the people over at TechCrunch (they also broke the story that a deal was done between TweetDeck and Twitter on Monday). I don’t buy the doom and gloom declaring the end of TweetDeck.

Tweet Tuesday this week, the deal between Twitter and Tweetdeck was sealed. There have been rumours of the acquisition for several months now, but finally it was made official: Tweetdeck will be joining Twitter. For quite some time Tweetdeck was my preferred choice when it came to social media management software. I’ve typically chosen software based solutions over web based ones for speed and performance when it comes to high touch computing. And for awhile Tweetdeck was meeting my needs, but I just grew increasingly more frustrated with performance issues with the Adobe Air platform. It certainly doesn’t suffer from the slow downs I experienced with Tweetdeck. So here is my short list of things so far that have me loving Hootsuite vs Tweetdeck: Tabs – Love the tabs.

Also, at my social media speaking engagements hither and yon I’m often asked what tools I use. So, I took a personal inventory and created this overview of the 39 social media tools I use daily. Twitter Tweetdeck I use Tweetdeck for serious twitter sessions. It doesn’t have the advanced functionality of Tweetdeck (such as cross-posting to Facebook), but it’s so easy-to-use that it’s my favorite Twitter app. Extremely handy while traveling, I also highly recommend Nutshell for casual social media users. Smart.
