Here’s Social Media presence doesn’t inherently fix your offline problems and perceived questionable ethics. Takeaway : Be prepared for Social Media to amplify offline opinion. As the Facebook hate piled in, Nestlé updated their Facebook page to reflect the sentiment of ‘we’re still learning’ As much as people say that it’s ok to get it wrong, in the Social Media mob’s eyes, it isn’t. Conclusion. | | | | | | | SCOTT GOULD MAY 11, 2010 Let Attendees Be Participants I wrote a while ago about the issue with Social Media events being that they aren’t Social. Cue the above image, that Josh Chandler keenly pointed out to me (thanks Josh) which displays some very pertinent statistics on our discussion of social events. Josh informs me he got this from Social Media Examiner , so thanks to them.). Let’s quickly talk about each level of participation: 1. Consult. Consume. Connect. Compete. | SCOTT GOULD JANUARY 13, 2011 4 Ways To Focus When You Meet People wrote sometime ago that Social Media 101 was making people feel special. When we use Social Media in this way – focussing on how people feel about themselves by encouraging them, providing them with utility and things that enhance their life (rather than getting us click throughs) you’ll find that you engagement goes through the roof. Your Leading Thoughts. | SCOTT GOULD MARCH 16, 2010 Be Useful: The 6 Social Media Presences wrote an article a while ago on the 6 Social Media presence types , which aimed to provide some kind of model for differentiating the different ways you can run a Social Media account. SCOTT GOULD | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 2011 5 Things You Need To Blog Every Month Of all the different types of people who read this blog and the different types of content I post here, one large demographic is people who are in the media / social media space and write blogs to that effect. SCOTT GOULD | MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 2011 Why I Don’t Complain On Twitter, And Why You Could Brand Experience Social Media complaining polarisingIt’s hard to resist having a good moan on Twitter, especially when something or someone isn’t doing their job and we hope that our moaning, combined with our perceived influence, will get us special attention. The trouble is that your complaining, whilst seemingly resolving your current short term frustration, might be causing you long term brand damage. The reason why lies in understanding how people form impressions of you – both at a first glance, and also over time. Horns and Halos. Your Leading Thoughts. MORE >> -

SCOTT GOULD | MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2011 If it doesn’t Spread, it’s Dead Sam on the other hand has been writing about the difference between sticky media and spreadable media. Facebook’s eco system enables one click posting of any media item to one’s newsfeed, Disqus auto posts comments to feeds, etc. Thus your ultimate goal has creators of any media is to make it compelling – compelling because it’s personal, relevant, entertaining, inspiring, and so on. SCOTT GOULD | FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2010 What The New Facebook Groups Mean For Community What this reminds me of is this slide below from “ The Real Social Network “, an exquisite and mind-shifting, a-ha moment presentation from Paul Adams at Google. It basically says that we can’t approach social networks from the point of view that we have one community, because we don’t. Facebook Social Plugins, however are currently still only with Pages or customised content, so Groups don’t have a weigh in there yet.
