[Social Media] The Stories We Tell Ourselves
We tried out social media marketing, email marketing and web marketing. Why does the business media keep showing us examples of all these small little startups that hit the web with an idea and overnight they are catapulted into fame and fortune? 'Storytelling is catching on inside of association circles and beyond. Is it the next new fad or is there really something to it? Each tactic brought a tiny bit of growth. tiny bit of growth for a lot of work and still overall penetration is roughly the same as it was a years ago. What is going on? [Social Media] Harry Potter and Unexpected Internet Publicity
Email and social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ make it easier than ever to quickly spread the word. Luckily, the social media team behind the Harry Potter series understands this phenomenon.  Most children’s parents have either not seen these photos, or they follow celebrity gossip enough to understand that the media loves to report when celebrities break the high standards set for them by society.  The internet is without a doubt the most unpredictable form of publicity out there.  Anyone can instantly read what has been published.

[Social Media] 1 Word to Describe 2010 and 2011
Looking back at social media tips I’ve shared on this blog… I pondered if blogging should be scheduled , I dissected Britney Spears on Twitter , I elaborated why your quest to gain Facebook fans is silly , I decided I would openly network on Facebook , I explained why I left Foursquare , I shared how to reduce your email inbox , and I questioned how to define social media. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you? My word for 2010 is discovery.

You all are partially responsible for Maddie and me writing Humanize–we saw that implementing social media required some shifts in culture if it was going to work. 'Back in July, over on the JamieNotter.com blog, I caught the attention of quite a few Human Resources people by sending an “ open letter” to HR , in which I effectively “broke up” with HR and told them I was going to go ahead and reinvent HR on my own, with or without their help. Let me be clear: I don’t think HR is evil, nor do I think they are incompetent. What about you, IT?

[Social Media] Easing Up on the Blog Throttle
Moving forward, online credibility will come from major initiatives like xPotomac , novels, books, photos, events and certain social networks. There is one exception, and that would be if I were to start blogging about social media marketing again three or four times a week. Frankly, I struggle writing one or two social media posts a week on the Vocus blog and here. Nor do I think that would be a smart business decision for Tenacity5 Media , and how I envision media evolving. 'A tension exists in my business life. So I’m going to blog less.

[Social Media] The Social Element Is Everywhere
It goes something like this: "all media is social media." Media (or anything) only becomes social when there is an opportunity for those who are consuming it to react back at it with some kind of interaction. The thing is, by doing so in a world where people are getting more and more used to having an interaction back and forth with their digital media channels, the more anti-social a brand can look. When people can speak back, the social engagement is implicit. Everything online and in the mobile space is social. media.
