| MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2011
Social media has taken over such a large portion of our lives that many feel trapped by it. I’m in it. I’m stuck in the trap in the worst way and have no excuse. I’m one of those sad souls who know that what Facebook does is wrong, how they do it is worse, why they do it is almost unspeakable, and yet I visit the site every day. Every few days I think, “Today’s the day. I’m going to do it. I’m going to kick the Facebook habit and delete my account.” ” And yet I keep coming back. Facebook has heavy users chasing their own tails.

| SUNDAY, AUGUST 29, 2010
Link exchanges are part of the old Internet, a system in which PageRank ruled and social media was a fancy word for e-mail. Google is taking advantage of this revolution with Caffeine , its web indexing system launched in June 2010 that crawls blogs, social media sites, commercial sites, and user generated content at a 50% faster rate.

The Rule of 150 (also know as Dunbar’s Number ) suggests that we are limited in our ability to manage our web-based social networks as a rule of social nature. Although the Rule of 150 certainly applies in the authentic world, this rule applies even more so to social networking on the internet. The answer isn’t just your online social circle. PROBLOGGER [Social Media] Four New Ways to Monetize a Blog
| TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2013
Federated Media, the darling of the online ad world, is just about vaporized. And media behemoth IAC is building a state-of-the-art ad sales system that will work like a trading floor where you don’t even know what content you’re buying—you only see the profiles of the people who are viewing the content right this second. But I can see it happening for someone who is amazing at PR, for example, and is essentially offering up her social media sauce and her high-powered media network in the talent acquisition of her blog. The ad industry is dead.
JEFF ESPOSITO [Social Media] What is Coverage?

While social media is a really powerful tool that all PR pros should know, lately it seems as if folks in the industry have had their vision clouded by social media. Sure, we could easily say that the Brian Solis’ and Peter Shankman’s of the world have fostered the appearance of PR pros turned media darling pundits, but that is just stupid. By going this route as a PR person, you lose the credibility of earning media. This post originally ran on PR Breakfast Club , but I wanted to share with you in case you missed it over there.
