Try Compete, Quantcast and Alexa, but be aware that none offer completely accurate data. Every interaction with a site owner has to be recorded for future reference. If most of the posts look spammy, are badly structured, or are just generally low quality, you should be wary. Check competitive data sources. Keep records.

If you claim your site gets 50,000 unique visitors a month and I go on Compete or Quantcast and see that your data is unavailable, we have a problem. The idea is to provide a vague reference to the positive experience others have had, with a hyperlink to a page full of content that talks about it in more detail.

My advice is that you compile it all into a common folder that you can refer to when creating content and marketing. Quantcast Visitor Demographics. Below is Quantcast’s estimation as to which sites people visit after Reddit. Compete offer a nice little service which lets you compare analytics (traffic volume, referring websites & search terms) between different websites. What Does Quantcast Say about the Audience.

I’m primarily covering referring domains here, since I think the total links to each page ranking is a bit of a skewed metric. This dip doesn’t just show in SEMRush, but in Quantcast as well. If one large website gives them a sitewide link then that really messes with the numbers.

Compete and Quantcast should have some information for you if the sites are of a decent size. You could say that we prefer signal over noise. Alexa is quite skewed towards the IM niche as a lot of marketers have the toolbar installed on their browser and then visit this site. Alexa is at least a week behind though in terms of actual tracking.
