Being a non-geek, I had no idea that WordPress’ WSYWIG editor has a lot more options than show up in your “kitchen sink&# when you’re writing posts. Roberto Carreras said: 12 Ways To Make Your WordPress Blog Cleaner And Cuter [link] via @shonali [.] Much cleaner than a huge unwieldy list.

PostRank has a comparison tool that uses its Domain Activity API to measure total engagement based on user participation across multiple social platforms. PostRank counts “engagement events” which it defines as individual activities such as a tweet, like, comment, digg, RSS view, etc. So I ran 30+ news sites through the tool.

PostRank calculates blog post engagement based on the number of comments and social shares through Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, Buzz, Delicious, Digg, and several other social networks.

I’ve embedded them as images since WordPress doesn’t play too nice with real tables (please, anyone with any insights on this one, do share!). Most achieved a Postrank of higher then 6, and 9 out of the 10 articles dealt with social media. My analysis and thoughts follow. 3 of these were lists (no surprise there).

My favorite thing about the WordPress blogging platform is that outside of the backend system, no two blogs operate the same way. PostRank – This nifty plugin rates your posts on engagement, sharing and some other variables and was recently acquired by Google. Image: Wikipedia. It has also increased the time spent on the site.
