As a result, even though the content of popular culture isn’t more intelligent, popular culture makes us more intelligent because it forces us to flex the pattern recognition muscles in our brains. Over the last few weeks, I have been asking myself an existential question: can you really understand popular culture, if you don’t really consume popular culture?
