People use various social media sites in different ways. The links from the profile page may have nofollow tags, but they will drive traffic and different search engines treat the nofollow tag differently. When you have anchor text and/or links to social sites etc on your blog/website PLEASE make them open in a new tab/window!

Linking to spammy sites can hurt your website’s reputation (not new, but still worth noting).
