With over 8,400 people in a LinkedIn group I manage about social media marketing , why did I create a new group using that dotcom name and ask people to join that? I wanted to create new social networking channels on some of the leading platforms and watch them grow. Those LinkedIn and Google+ groups?

But there’s valuable content in the groups. I belong to some teaching groups, nerdy groups, and food groups. I manage a few groups including one to talk about the coronavirus crisis without politics or sensationalism. Facebook is listed fourth because of my ongoing love-hate relationship.

June 2010 seems like an eternity ago when I took initiative and created a LinkedIn Group to share strategies and tips in social media marketing. Over time, people none of us knew searched LinkedIn for keywords about social media marketing and also joined the group. They did that, and they told their friends.

Of the three largest social networking sites in the United States, I plan to use Facebook the most, LinkedIn the second-most, and Twitter the least. I will continue to seek out new connections who are strategically aligned with my interests and passions in social media marketing, open government, and social change.

Reviewing my Facebook history from Day One (which you can learn how to download yourself ), I’ll guess I joined the social networking site in the spring of 2005 shortly after I gained an.edu email address in graduate school. Groups can only be seen by group members. Ahh, the memories!
