It’s not the same 20 every time – Twitter randomly shuffles in 20 profiles from the group it has deemed worthy of recommendation. Since new users aren’t always sure exactly how to use Twitter, this starter group can be quite helpful, so the profiles that are featured do end up getting a steady stream of new followers.

I started with the group I used in my news sites domain authority post and added a few more. News moved it to the top of the group for articles and knocked Guardian.co.uk Sitemap | RSS | © 2009-present AdamSherk.com Using Thesis Wordpress Theme. The sites include a mix of major newspapers, news magazines and TV news sites.

Some additional notes: 1) It is not clear yet how well using an RSS feed to automatically submit articles is working. While it is not surprising that tech sites are doing well it is encouraging that some of the top mainstream news sites above fall within in the middle of this group.

PostRank counts “engagement events” which it defines as individual activities such as a tweet, like, comment, digg, RSS view, etc. So there may definitely be some other new media sites with engagement scores that are competitive with this group, or even higher. So I ran 30+ news sites through the tool.
