On Twitter today Myspace is trending, not because it’s about Myspace but because people are suggesting Facebook is doomed to the same fate as Myspace. Facebook is showing off a brand new look and as usual everybody’s in a snit about it. Honestly, it amazes me that they seem to do their re-designs in a total vacuum. But that’s my take. are you doing????????

The Irony: MySpace Okay, so in my previous paragraph, I mention that you should be an early adopter of social networks. However, I joined MySpace in 2006 to network with individuals who refused to use Facebook and to return to my liberal ways of accepting a lot more friend requests than I normally would. MySpace? Did you know that Myspace is still one of the most popular networks for kids age 13-18? Now, that's quickly diminishing as kids move over to Facebook, but as a marketer, I'd consider going to Myspace if my audience is 13-18 year olds. The fact is, and Charlene Li at Altimeter Group has said this numerous times, social networks will " be like air " in the future.

That was the plan when Mark Zuckerberg moved the online social network out of his college dorm room, and into a business/something more substantive. Whether he knew what Facebook would become is questionable, at best (who could know that Facebook would have the profound effect that it has had on our society?). At the time, Facebook was not a better mousetrap or something original.
