Maybe it’s a mention of a great weekend away on a blog, photos on Facebook, Twitter or Flickr, a video on youtube of you being silly. The problem with that model is; you aren’t the only one who might be posting information about you online. All of these things can easily be taken out of context if it suits the goals of the viewer.

Even though they’re not official on Facebook we still use them there as well as Pinterest, Twitter Tumblr, Flickr and Google+. Use multiple platforms. Hashtags exist on several platforms. If you really want to get mileage out of this, use it on as many networks as you can, but only the ones where you already have a valid presence.

Imagine my delight at finding Photopin a free resource for creative commons licensed photos pulled from Flickr. I’m a stickler for making sure the images I use on the site are not violating any copyrights and I often buy images from sites like Fotolia for my presentations instead of pirating something from the interwebs.
