Almost every update happens within Google+ itself meaning if you comment on something, the person might actually be there to answer you vs. someone who just auto updates to update and not to engage. If you pull the placement into a parameter, you can use Google Analytics to get a sense of the quality of visits from people who click from each placement. Use URL parameters and Google Analytics.
