Use Canvas Resize to Convert from YouTube to Instagram

Select Canvas Size to select the Instagram post size

In the upper right hand corner, select Canvas Size. This will toggle a simple dropdown menu where you can adjust the size of your video from YouTube to Instagram. You can select either the 1:1 ratio square format or 4:5 ratio portrait format for a regular feed post. But you can also select the 9:16 ratio for Instagram stories or IGTV. Although you can select a 16:9 ratio landscape (wide) format, we advise against it since it takes up such little space on the screen.

Once you’ve resized your video from YouTube to Instagram, you can play with the pink adjustment handles. Drag the handles to decide if you want your video to occupy the entire Instagram size you’ve selected or maybe just a strip of it to allow for subtitles, title text, and progress bar if you’re trying to create videos like Gary Vee.

Customize Your Video for Instagram

The left-hand panel hosts a powerful library of options to customize your video

When repurposing content in general, the goal is to adjust it to fit a platform’s native content. This is why we taught you how to crop video for Instagram in the previous tip so it suits the platform’s best-performing native formats.

But there are more areas where you can optimize a piece of content when going from YouTube to Instagram from subtitles to text to progress bar animations. For example, although YouTube has automatic closed-captioning Instagram does not. And with 5% of the world’s population being hard of hearing and far more watching with sound off, this makes adding subtitles to video a must. In fact, if you need even more convincing, here’s another interesting stat.

80% of consumers are more likely to watch an entire video when captions are available. They say captions help make a video more interesting. 37% will even turn the sound on if possible.

Download and Share to Instagram

Select download and then grab your file on this final screen

Once you’re happy with the video you’ve successfully converted from YouTube to Instagram, simply download it from the upper right hand corner. You’ll then be prompted with a final screen to grab your file.

You can finally post your video to either your Instagram feed, stories, or IGTV!
