Buh bye Facebook “Explore Feed”

Back in October Facebook rolled out an experiment called the “Explore Feed”, moving non-promoted posts from publishers and brands to a tab on the left side of desktop feeds where Facebook said one could find content “automatically customized for each person based on content that might be interesting to them”.

Am I talking to myself over here? My Feedburner saga

Sometimes the feed would work, sometimes it would appear to be empty. So we moved some client sites to Feedblitz , others decided to use WordPress’s free built in RSS feed tool. Just use the Feedblitz migration guide and it will find the feeds and migrate them for you. The feed may still be working with a reporting glitch.

Facebook Metrics Update

In fact, if an older post starts to get some new comments it can actually rise to the surface and appear again in people’s news-feeds. Facebook sez: Previously, people read 57% of the stories in their News Feeds, on average. The new algorithm leave out the time decay portion and focuses more on the interactions.

What’s wrong with online community today?

We are feeding the algorithms and they show it to more people who believe like us and so on and so on. Whether that polarizing post is even true is no longer discussed and the algorithms feed our distrust (again…whatever) to the opposite side of the spectrum and THEY get reactive.

There Is No Free Social Media For Business

Now people are up in arms about the recent disclosure that organic reach for Facebook business pages is declining and businesses will need to pay in order to get their companies posts and information in user news-feeds. It’s not realistic to think that Facebook should give small business a break out of the goodness of their hearts.
