Twitter as a feed reader (for more important feeds). I subscribe to nearly 150 feeds and have no systematic way of reading them ( unlike Robert Scoble ). Sometimes, I’ll read the noisier (and most frequently updated) feeds first so I can tune into the more important feeds later.

You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers. I had similar problems with Netvibes, and have gone back to Google Reader for my feeds.

Of course, Google put the social world abuzz with its announcement that it would be retiring Google Reader in July. Use Google Reader to store your ego searches. Passports are accounts on other social networks and social media platforms. Twitter.com is a must if you have a social media audience. Facebook and/or MySpace are useful social networks where you can build outposts (see next list). Make eye contact.

Information overload is a real problem for many web users, and one way to cope with it is to filter your RSS feeds so you only see what you want to see. There are many ways to filter news feeds from your favorite sources, including passively by relying on meme trackers like Techmeme or social news services such as Google Readers shared items.
