Some may not be aware of this, but previous to Facebook's 2007 F8 conference, they too had an API very similar to the state of Google+'s API today. Google+ is in a very similar state today. The parallels are very similar.

Blogger is 100% free, and has close to 100% uptime thanks to Google's incredible infrastructure. What I discovered however is that Blogger, while simple on the surface, has some very developer-friendly features that to me, seemed even easier to deal with than my custom-hosted Wordpress solution.
