When monitoring social media, don’t forget to monitor social media platforms (changes at Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn etc) as well as stuff specific to YOUR industry. For my students: RSS allows you to manually (or autopost) Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn etc updates from a 3rd party site. 363337977414.

You can use Google’s URL builder to make your tracking links. Another dashboard I recommend is NetVibes – their dashboard can include Google Analytics, along with other metrics and alerts that help you monitor and manage your content. Netvibes – they’ve been around for as long as I can remember, so it should give you some hope they’ll be sticking around. Especially due to time-sinks social media sites like Facebook, Reddit, Pinterest, Google+ (I’m joking) and Twitter. You can also follow me on Twitter but I’m more active on Facebook.

For your blog, any URL will do, and if you are writing for a blog with multiple authors, FriendFeed parses through the authors and only features blog posts written by you. For example, if I want to leave a lot of blog comments, it’s going to be a hassle to constantly type in my name, email, and URL. As a side-note, at the start of the year I wrote about how I use Netvibes for pretty much everything. I had similar problems with Netvibes, and have gone back to Google Reader for my feeds.
