Millennials On Mobile, Social Media [Report]

Millennials on Social Media - Scarborough ReportMillennials (ranging from 18-29 years old) now comprise one-fifth of American adults.  This age group is 53% more likely than all U.S. adults to feel that social media sites are very important for finding information about news and current events, according to a new report from Scarborough Research.

A few highlights from the report:

  • 60% of respondents had visited a friend’s page or profile during the previous 30 days
  • 52% had commented on a friend’s post over that same time period
  • 49% had updated a status
  • 48% participated in email and messaging activities
  • 41% posted a picture
  • 39% watched a video

Mobile plays a significant role with this generation: 61% of millennials own smartphones. The majority – 51% – of millennial cell phone users access social networking sites via their mobile.  Only 17% of millennials own a tablet, but 11% plan to buy one next year.

The November 2012 Scarborough Research report, “OMG! Is Your Medium Reaching Millennials?” surveyed 210,000 US consumers ages 18 to 29.
