I’ve noted before that the Google+ Business pages may not be for all brands, some have built their Google+ pages and done quite well, but maybe not well enough to ax that Facebook page just yet. Personally, I find Google+ useful for surfacing content that I don’t find on Twitter or Facebook. Brands need to hedge their bets.

The network itself is reminiscent of a mix of the best features of FriendFeed , Facebook and a few other networks, and as Kit Eaton pointed out in her Google+ post on Fast Company the network seems positioned to take over from Foursquare , Instagram , Facebook and maybe even Twitter and Quora. Because this is clearly a direct assault on Facebook pages. Save the Children UK launched their nonprofit page and did a great job setting off their profile with moving photos (hmm, just like Facebook pages eh?). According to reports from the Google engineers they’re working on this. How could we resist?

There is no facility to add admins to a page (like Facebook) so you either create an account just for this purpose or share your user name and password with other admins. Go to the Google search engine and type in Toyota+ to see what I mean. The creator of the page is the only administrator. Because it’s easier for them.

I like to say Google+ combines the best of Twitter and Facebook on one network. With Google+ you can toss off a quick comment on a link you’ve shared and find thoughtful commentary building on it for days, in a threaded format just like Facebook and popular forums. Google+ is worth the effort. But nobody uses Google+.
