During the home quarantine conditions forced on people during the Coronavirus pandemic, video games are already a prime option for filling hours and relieving stress. For those players looking to be more proactive and creative, a creative platform allows them to make their own games to educate the public against the pandemic.

Educational game creator Koji allows anyone to make a new form of interactive social media content to share. Once a Koji game title is completed, the designer can get the result out via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc., inviting anyone from friends to members of the genuine public to play his or her original game.

During a recent campaign encouraging users to forge games that spread key messages regarding COVID-19, several aspiring designers jumped in with popular new uploads.

The Koji call to action asked designers to engage in positive steps from “myth busting and emphasizing physical distancing to games sharing where to make donations.” More than 100 interactive social games resulted so far, with a few star pupils earning virtual gold stars for their efforts.

For example, the 13 year-old user TinyGekko created four social media-shareable games, including Battle COVID-19 and Sanitizer Slide – both aimed at educating players on precautionary measures they can take during the health crisis.

Meanwhile, Tay Li Cheng, a Singapore-based teacher, saw her COVID-19 “table wipe down game” shared by the Singapore Ministry of Education. It’s still making the rounds on social media and generated more than 200,000 plays to date.

According to Koji, Chelyn Briand is a single mother of two who built a successful home business by creating games and selling assets through Koji. The Coronavirus opportunity led her to build games for non-profits like The Red Backpack Fund to help with COVID-19 relief efforts.

The Koji Coronavirus campaign remains up and running via the platform’s homepage, allowing new designer to jump on board even as the world slowly begins emerging from the resulting lockdowns.
