Smart Location-Based Marketing By Home Depot

Dave Fleet

Just saw this photo on my friend Ben Lucier’s Posterous site – hardware retailer Home Depot reserved a parking spot for him at his local store in the “Pro&# parking section. Why? Because he was the mayor. Smart way to reward their most loyal customer (well, the most loyal customer using Foursquare, anyway) with something that has zero cost to Home Depot but a nice benefit for the customer, all the while encouraging other people to compete for that benefit.

Twitter Lists: Are They Useful?

yMarketingMatters

“What’s the benefit? Should I even bother?” I often get asked this by SMB owners and my clients. Yes! Twitter lists are really useful! They help you organize the people you follow (and don’t follow) into a specific “group” and when you click to view a list, you’ll see a stream of Tweets from all.

11 Things I Wish More People Knew About Me

Dave Fleet

If you didn’t already know, I’m a huge Amber Naslund fan. Her latest post, over at the Brass Tack Thinking blog, focuses on the things she wishes more people knew about her, and it got me thinking. As Amber notes, and as I’ve found, social media enables immensely valuable connections and relationships, but it’s all too easy to mistake loose, weak connections for strong ones when you really don’t know the person that well.

Is Google Losing Focus?

Firebelly

Everyone has heard about Google+ already. When the search giant revealed its attempt at social networking, the news spread through the internet like wildfire. It has some extremely nice features lined up and it’ll be exciting to see how it eventually stacks up against Facebook, but it’s even more interesting (to me, at least) how Google is switching its focus from a branding standpoint.

Promotional Hashtags – Trendy or Evergreen?

Firebelly

Twitter Trends — we all see them along the right side of our laptop screens or smartphones every day. I love the Trends for breaking news or following what others are saying during the season finale of my favorite TV shows, but there is a particular breed of Trend I never tag — the promoted hashtag. As I log onto Twitter now, the promoted hashtag for the United States is #ANewMcDFavorite, obviously for McDonalds.

LinkedIn Is The #1 Social Network

A new report shows that LinkedIn – not Facebook and not Twitter – is the No. 1 social network. If you think about it, that makes a lot of sense.
