Brazil’s President Bolsonaro Latest Victim Of Anonymous Hackers

This article is more than 3 years old.

He’s not called the Tropical Trump for nothing.

Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was also subject to Anonymous hackers this week, with the local branch of the international band of info warriors revealing addresses, income, and other personal assets in a data dump first posted on Twitter last night.

While the market doesn’t really care about any of this other than chit-chat for the rumor mill, the personal addresses of Bolsonaro cabinet members puts them at immediate risk at a time when the radical group Antifa spent last night smashing up store fronts in Curitiba, the capital city of Parana state.

After Anonymous put out the information on Bolsonaro on Twitter, they included the hashtag “antifascista” in a nod to the left wing protest movement.

Brazilian professors and some local reporters have been adding the hashtag to their social media accounts.

The last thing Brazil needs is a security risk like the one occurring now in U.S. cities. It is already facing a crisis within a crisis with the pandemic raging on, and Bolsonaro’s Administration fighting Supreme Court overreach, among other politically charged insider matters the market is ignoring at this time.

Anonymous Brasil also published private account information of conservative businessman Luciano Hang, owner of the Havan chain of big box retail stores.

The Havan stores are known for having large Statue of Liberty statues in their parking lots.

Anonymous Brasil said that their actions were part of a global action that also took shots at Trump.

A link on the dark web to some 169 emails that all mention Trump in one way or another but are not emails to or from Trump.

But these were supposedly just a first batch. Davey Winder, who writes about cybersecurity as a Forbes blogger, says it looked like the hackers just searched for any mention of "trump" and lumped those emails together in a file “that is about as far from dirty laundry as you can get. Many of them use trump as a verb and those that do mention President Trump only do so in passing,” he wrote.

Whether or not this is just the beginning remains to be seen. Anonymous has always been palace intrigue for the conspiracy-minded looking far and wide for Matrix Neo’s. But without mainstream media follow up, their revelations tend to be convoluted, complicated, or simply die on the vine.

For Brazil, which has a penchant for imitating the U.S. politically and socially on many levels, any ramp up of political stress and social upheaval will only hinder the pandemic recovery efforts.

Brazil remains a relatively poor country, and given the amount of money it’s spending now to keep people from the poor house due to lockdowns in many cities and states, the country will need to get back to work sooner rather than later.

Bolsonaro told his followers to stand down this weekend in demonstrations so as not to get into fights with Antifa.
