Creative Video Editing Tips For Playing With Audio Tracks In Your Video

1. Use the video splitter to mute video clip parts

In your editing process, do you want to mute video clip parts, instead of its entirety? You can do this by splitting the video clips into different parts.

You need to:

Drag the playhead (the vertical black line on the video timeline interface) to the point at which you want to split the video clip into 2 parts.Click on the Split icon, which is above the timeline to the left.

  • Drag the audio volume slider to the left to completely mute the video part.
And you’re done. You can repeat these steps, again, if you want to mute other parts.

Read our blog post on tips for how to effectively split your video into parts.

2.  Add background music to the video over the muted video clip

Want to make video montages of people doing cool things, while a music track is playing in the background to encapsulate the feeling of the moments in your video?

You can also add audio to replace the original one. Here’s how to do this:

Mute the original audio.

  • Click on the Upload video button in the left toolbar.
  • Upload your audio file.
  • Specify the duration length that the audio will play.
  • Trim the audio length, including the points at which the track starts and ends.

You can watch the video above to get a better understanding of this.

3. ...Or add a voice-over track and automatically add subtitles

This is similar to uploading your audio file in point #2, except that you’re adding a voice-over track to the video instead of music.

In particular, this is quite popular with video tutorials (e.g. makeup, DIY, carpentry, etc.) that involve a series of steps that make it hard for the person in front of the camera to act and talk at the same time.

And one more thing. VEED also has a powerful subtitle tool that automatically captions your video in just a few clicks!

You can upload the voice-over track to VEED, and automatically add subtitles in your video without having to type it yourself!

4. Add text to the video file for special effects

Once you have replaced your original audio track with a music or voice-over track, you might also want to add text as a special effect or for some other thing.

To do this, just click on the Text button in the left toolbar, enter your text, and specify when you want it to appear in your video.

Of course, you can also split the video into parts if you only want to add some texts in some parts of the video.

Read our blog post on how to creatively add texts to your video to learn more.

5. When should you remove sound from video?

Finally, when should you exactly remove and replace your video’s original audio track? In your video editing process, you already kind of know that you should remove the audio from your video, but you just need a small nudge in the form of this article to get you to do just that.

Add a voice-over to the boring bits of your tutorial. Let’s be honest. Some parts of your video tutorial warrant to be sped up because they’re just not interesting. During those dull moments, remove the audio from your video clip, speed up that part, edit it, and add a voice-over track to make your content more engaging.

  • Your audio quality sucks. You might not have a good microphone, or that part of the video might be having some audio issues, such as background noise. Adding an external audio track or a voice-over with a better sound quality and less background noise might be a better choice than retaining the original audio.
  • You want to create a video montage. With a video montage, you’ll be combining together several video clips with different audio tracks. Mute your video parts and add music to make your video montage more engaging.

6. Go to a place wth less background noise

You won't need a video editing app video muter if you go to a place with less background noise! If you can't record in a studio without background noise, record in your place, where there's no wind or traffic noise.

Otherwise, if you can't completely remove the background noise, you can record yourself and add a voice-over. It's definitely a scrappier way to remove background noise, but having a video with noise can end up up annoying your viewers even further.
