Social Media App OKCupid Debuts New Matching System For Online Dating

The social media app OKCupid rolled out a redesign this week that introduced a new matching system to the online dating platform. The system, named “Stacks,” groups multiple discovery methods into one category.

The new Stacks unveils potential matches with new focuses and under new categories, including:

  • Recommended
  • Question Pros
  • Online
  • Nearby
  • New People (for paid subscribers)
  • Popular (for paid subscribers)
  • Match Percentage

OKCupid’s changes are aimed at making the process of finding a match easier before a would-be couple moves on to communication. Users can now access each of the above categories to locate the best possible matches.

The dating app also added the new Question Pros Stack to identify “higher-intent” — users who want a meaningful relationship. According to the OKCupid statement, a user who answers more questions shows an investment in the dating process and a willingness to connect more genuinely. The app included a Stack category aimed at those users. The platform’s statistics say more 8 billion questions were answered on OKCupid since its inception.

Those same stats indicate women on OKCupid started sending twice as many “Likes” as they were before Stacks went into effect. Those women are more likely to use the Questions Pro Stack, while the most popular Stacks overall are Online and Nearby.
