Global Facebook users have reported outages this morning on the web's largest social media platform, as well as on its sister platform Instagram.

On Tuesday, social media users took to Twitter and other sites to report frequent log-in and site loading issues on Facebook, which the company says it is currently working to fix.

Users say they're being met with error messages and failures to load on Facebook as well as Instagram, which Facebook purchased for close to $1 billion in cash and stock in 2012.

According to Down Detector, thousands of users have reported issues today to the tracking site, with concentrations on the US East Coast and in Europe (where many have already started their workdays).

In a developer post early this morning, Facebook Developer Support Engineer Marissa Hoek wrote, "We are currently experiencing issues that may cause some API requests to take longer or fail unexpectedly. We are investigating the issue and working on a resolution."

Social media users have taken to Twitter to report Facebook and Instagram's down status, as well as to reflect on the situation's possible causes and outcomes.

Numerous accounts have also suggested alternative activities for Facebook and Instagram users who are shut out for the time being.

UNESCO's Twitter account recommended reading a book (or one of their recent reports), while Pornhub's account declared that the free massive platform "is lit."

Facebook users reported similar problems earlier this month during an outage that garnered similar attention on Twitter.

Yesterday, shortly after Facebook launched a new feature in its Messenger platform, global users also reported a widespread outage on Facebook Messenger, which has seemingly been resolved for at least some users.
