Death To The Page View

Twist Image

Are the days of measuring page views as an advertising metric slowly (or quickly) coming to an end? When banner ads first came on the Internet (we now call it "display advertising"), I remember thinking to myself, "is this the best we can do?" " While I sold them and many big and powerful companies bought them, I never understood why anybody would take action. After the dot com implosion, there was a brief moment when it felt like we may get a chance to reboot, but it never happened. There's still something inherently wrong with the page view model. My Love Letter to IABC

Waxing UnLyrical

February came and went and I didn’t write a valentine for the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). I should have. While I have no plans to get an IABC logo tattooed on my bicep , I am scrawling its name all over my date book. It’s getting obnoxious. In a sense, I’ve been kicking figurative mailboxes since I became an IABC member five years ago. I want to measure everything.

Whether you have an online or offline business, e-mail marketing is still a proven winner when it comes to marketing your business. One common complaint is the difficulty in building an e-mail marketing list. It really isn’t that difficult to build that list – the key is in not making the process too difficult. Why is e-mail marketing for small business still a winning way to go? Blasting your list is not going to win business.

The Brilliant Content Strategy Everyone Gets Wrong

This guest post is by James Chartrand of Men with Pens. For a long while (and on the Internet, a “long while” means about six months), there were dozens of posts telling you how to reuse content. Your content, other bloggers’ content, magazine content, brochures-from-that-stack-in-the-attic content. It didn’t matter. The point was that you didn’t need to come up with all the ideas on your own. You could jump-start your brain with interesting content from other sources than the bottomless depths of your own genius. It was good advice. It’s great, in fact.

Are we becoming too similar because of Facebook?

Engaging Brand

It is the democratisation of the web, they cried when social media first came on the scene.and I would agree to a point. However, there is a role for companies in what is happening because of social media. Because Google, because Facebook, because the internet recommends everything to us it links to blogs, the most accurate article on what we searcher for or even the people we ought to know or 'friend'.the the danger is that we as individuals. Forget how to do our own filtering. Society becomes interlocking groups of people who are 'similar' to each other. Companies who can.
