This Thursday, March 8, is International Women’s Day.

It’s not a day that’s widely celebrated in the United States (a fact we’d like to change), nor is it a Hallmark made-up holiday.

It’s a day that celebrates women and Oxfam America thinks we can do some good, if we all participate leading up to the day.

This isn’t just for women, though. It’s in celebration of women. And guys, you have moms, sisters, wives, and friends who you can celebrate.

Maybe it is your mom. Or a woman entrepreneur who has inspired you to do better work. Or your neighbor who is fighting for her life. Or your sister who always knows the right thing to say. Or your wife who manages it all, without batting an eye. Or a colleague or a boss or a former teacher.

Whomever it may be, there are two ways you can say thank you…and begin to change the world, leading up to International Women’s Day.

  1. Send an International Women’s Day eCard to a woman you know, to say thank you for all that she does. Better yet, send it to several women who’ve made the world a better place.
  2. Give the Oxfam America International Women’s Day 2012 award to a woman you think has made a difference to the world.

To give your award, just fill out the PDF file with the awardee’s name, and your name and date. You can then save it as a PDF or JPG (JPG if you want your readers to see the actual award) file. Then just publish a post to your blog, or to Facebook (make sure to tag her so she sees it), or wherever you’d like. You can even print it out and give it to her as a tangible reminder of your gratefulness.

This week I am thanking the women in my life, one at a time, by filling out the award, saving it as a JPG, uploading it to Facebook, and tagging them. I began with my mom who is my best friend, my confidant, and my mentor.

It won’t take you long. Less than five minutes a day. Together we can change the world (but don’t think you’re getting to Global Domination…that’s all mine!).
