SocMed Sean

Working in social media in my day job and my night job, I spend a LOT of time around social media geeks. Would I be concerned that a new generation was talking in terms that I just didn’t understand?

The Awesome Power of Family in Social Media Storytelling

Convince & Convert

In honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to write a post about the power of family in social media storytelling. And as you site down to whatever celebration you embrace, think about the videos below and what they evoke within you. But first, remember that the goal isn’t to be good at social media. Tool Tuesday: Sprout Social Update

Akamai Marketing

When I last wrote about Sprout Social in May 201 1, I’d been using it for a couple of months. And while I found a use for it, I only used it sporadically because it really wasn’t offering anything truly unique. But for $92/year it wasn’t breaking the bank either. There was a long list of “Meh.” Its a great resource for putting a particular contact into context.

Twist Image

Newsjacking. As news broke last week that Amazon started selling its long-awaited entry into the tablet (and iPad led) market ( Kindle Fire ), many eyes were raised, waiting to see what those who would get their fingers on it would think. Would this coming holiday shopping for tablets be (once again) dominated by Apple 's iPad or did Amazon develop a truly worthy contender? It's no coincidence, either. The concept of newsjacking is to interject your businesses' story into breaking news to generate media coverage for what you're doing. "That perception is exactly correct. right now. apple.

On Engagement, Ashton Kutcher and Pet Rocks

Waxing UnLyrical

Guest post by Jen Zingsheim. Ashton Kutcher has for a while been the darling of the social media/celebrity Twitter set. His Twitter account has more than 8 million followers, and perhaps most surprisingly to some, he has been the one tweeting. Until recently. After tweeting out an amazingly ill-informed defense of Penn State coach Joe Paterno (Mr. What can we learn from this? 1. Don’t believe me?

The Expert Fallacy

ProBlogger

This guest post is by Dan Meyers of Your Life, Their Life. In general, most of our goals as bloggers center around becoming authorities on subjects—the kinds of authorities that others look to for advice.  What’s the title that usually comes with this position?  An “expert.” How can you become an expert? Not an expert. Read books. Interview people who’ve already done it. Just do it. The instant credibility isn’t always deserved, but it’s a great way to kick-start your business. We can all become experts on a subject if we learn enough about it.

Debbie Weil

Please disregard earlier blog entry. The link was incorrect. The cool thing about publishing a book for Amazon Kindle is that you can think of yourself as a Beta Author. It’s easy to take the plunge and commit to publishing a digital book, knowing you can update your book later. And forget BOOK in all caps. When you write an eBook it can be as short as 30 pages. Nor do they care.

What About Google -1?

ProBlogger

This guest post is by Sriram Reddy of BloggingTipster.com. Allen: Billy, Why are you looking so gloomy? Did your Twitter follower count halve overnight? Hehe… Billy: No, I just had such a cheesy experience Googling for material for Prof. Dwyer’s assignment. There was an unusual amount of spam in the search results. I had such a hard time scanning through all those search results, but I finally found what I was really looking for. wish there was a way I could shield others in the Internet community from visiting some of those sites I just visited—trust me, they were a sham.

Facebook Rules The SMB Social Media Roost

Small Business Mavericks

A recent survey shows that Facebook is the king of social media for small businesses. think there’s an interesting study here. Why is Facebook so effective for small businesses? 36% say it’s very effective and 47% say it’s moderately so. That’s 83% who say that Facebook has any level of effectiveness. Is it just because there are 800 million users? Or maybe there’s something more. By contrast, 70% of the respondents said they don’t use Google+. But the really interesting aspect to this survey is the muddle in the middle. But I guess that’s not the case.
