Elon Musk Continues Bizarre Twitter Use Over A Wild Weekend

This article is more than 4 years old.

Topline: Despite facing a defamation lawsuit and being censured by federal authorities about his inappropriate use of Twitter, Musk continues to double down on bizarre fights and perplex the public.

  • In since-deleted tweets, Musk refused to give credit to an artist whose work he tweeted over the weekend—even after other users asked him to. “I wish people would stop crediting artists on twitter when any fool can find out who the artist was in seconds. It's destroying the medium,” he tweeted.
  • On Father’s Day, Musk changed his Twitter name to “Daddy DotCom.”
  • Then on Sunday night, Musk tweeted, “Just deleted my Twitter account,” even though the account still remains online. He has not tweeted since.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It’s unclear if Musk is actually deleting his account.

Musk’s Twitter troubles: The strange series of tweets over the weekend comes months after Musk settled a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission for his notorious “funding secured” tweet where he said he was going to take Tesla private at $420 per share.

Part of that settlement stipulated that Musk get prior approval from a lawyer before we tweets out anything regarding Tesla’s business. Musk has also settled with the SEC for violating that original agreement for a February tweet with inaccurate Tesla production numbers.

On top of his legal troubles with the SEC, Musk is being sued for defamation after tweeting that a British cave diver was a “pedo guy.”
