How To Promote Your Blog Post

This article is more than 5 years old.

Unfortunately, most bloggers and marketers don’t do enough to promote their blog post. They’ll post on Twitter and Facebook and maybe email their list.

And after that, they get stuck.

So what do they do?  They usually repost everything, hoping and praying the post “goes viral”.

Sometimes a post does go viral, but it’s rare. I am not one to rely on a viral post for the growth of my blog.
The truth is, if you want to grow your blog fast, you need to leverage other people’s audiences.

This includes sharing your post in relevant forums and groups, emailing influencers and asking them to share it with their fans, and even running ads to your post.

In fact, one of my favorite ways to promote a blog post is to email everyone I link to in the post. They are much more likely to share it because they have a vested interest in the post's success.

Here’s how you do it.

Step 1:  Add links to your post

If you’re going to reach out to everyone you’ve linked to, you’ll need to actually add links to your post. Ideally, you’d add 10-20 links per every 1,000 words in your article.

After you're done with the first draft of an article, go back and add links. Usually, you can back up a thought or piece of research with a link.

I usually do this in one of three ways:

• Get quotes from influencers.
• Link to blog posts, case studies, and statistics that drive home a point that you’re trying to make.
• Link to valuable resources where people can get more information.

Step 2:  Email everyone you’ve linked to

Quick question: If someone mentioned the work you did in their blog post, wouldn’t you want to share that post with everyone you know?

Of course you would!

That’s the magic of this blog promotion strategy.  Its great traction for you and for the person/company you’ve linked to. Now that you’ve added your links to your post, all you have to do is send this email script:

"Subject:  I mentioned you in my post

Hey (first name)

I just wanted to let you know that I love your work.

I recently published a blog post called (insert name of your post) about (insert topic of your post) and linked to your business (or blog post).

You can check it out here.

Cheers!"

This email gets opened over 50% of the time and the person who receives it is very likely to share your blog post with their fans and followers. And with that, you’re now on your way to building an audience beyond your email list and social media following.

Also post your blog post in relevant places that your target market hangs out. Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, Quora, Reddit, Medium, etc. Again, these sites will most likely have a bigger audience reach than your blog, so it’s about leveraging other audiences beside your own.
