Greta Thunberg Responds To A Diss By President Trump By Updating Her Twitter Bio. Could It Set Off A Chain Reaction For Everyone Else?

This article is more than 4 years old.

I haven’t changed my Twitter bio in about three years — maybe longer. That’s an eternity in Internet years, and even longer in social media years.

Yet, it can be a good way to respond to any backlash about your online presence, especially since everyone is going to notice it eventually.

Short of pinning a tweet to your feed, it’s a clear statement about your views and a better way to inform followers about any changes in your life.

Recently, Time named the person of the year as Greta Thunberg, the climate change activist who has been a vocal opponent against industrial complex. She started a school strike and rose to prominence after speaking at a United Nations meeting.

The first surprise is that Twitter users took issue with the selection, mostly due to how they feel the publication overlooked the Hong Kong protesters. (Time has typically selected a group of people if they are more deserving than a single individual.)

In typical fashion, President Donald Trump made his own statement about the selection, dissing her for being angry and prompting her to watch a movie instead.

Here’s the post:

Again, all politics aside — her reaction was priceless.

Thunberg updated her Twitter bio to reflect Trump’s advice in a sarcastic way.

It now reads:

“A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”

What could be interesting here is if changing your bio became more of a popular way to protest injustices and troubling world events.

As I mentioned, it’s not something I’ve typically done but might start doing more often. The bio is often reserved for stating your role in life. Journalists like myself use it to state what we do. Business leaders state their title.

Maybe it’s time for the bio to evolve.

When you change it, you’re revealing your position on a topic for all to see, since your bio is the first thing people check when they decide if they want to follow you. Will you try it? Post in my Twitter feed if you change your bio to reflect a new viewpoint or to take a stance on an issue. I’ll be sure to check it out.
