MINDJUMPERS MAY 15, 2012 Social Business + Big Data = Business intelligence Tweet. Every day we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data. Yes, that sounds like quite a lot – and it is! To put it into perspective, we have produced more than 90% of all online data that exists in the world today within these past two years. Combined, this online data equals Big Data. Being Especially the articles of Jeremiah Owyang and Raj De Datta. BDAs – what exactly is it again? | UNSPOKEN MAY 15, 2012 Finally – A Promising Buzz in the Social Media Marketing Atmosphere FreebeeCards.com. I’ve watched with a bit of dismay as marketers have tried to figure out the social media environment, working to get consumers to buy products and services purely based on electronic communication. FreebeeCards bills itself as “the next generation of daily offers.” In April Groupon settled a lawsuit for $8.5 Many vouchers go unused. Nearly zero barrier to entry. | ADAM SHERK MAY 15, 2012 Media Relations Gone Wrong: How Not to Pitch a Journalist (Video) The Internet and social media have certainly made it easier to conduct media relations in a more efficient and less intrusive way. At my first PR job I had to type in contact addresses from the hard-copy Bacon’s guide so we could mail merge and send out the press materials. Or stand over the fax machine feeding through one press release at at time. Seriously though, did you get my press release? | SOCMED SEAN MAY 15, 2012 Social Media Comic – Communicating With Your Customer Community Dear Brand Managers, Let’s face it…engaging online isn’t always easy. Sometimes, things go wrong. Sometimes product updates don’t go as we plan. Sometimes there are issues. But, as with most things in life, honesty is the the best policy when it comes to communicating with your online community. If something goes wrong, let them know about it as early as possible. Cheers! | | | | | | | | | -
GET SOCIAL PR | TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2012 Three Tips To Build Clout and Klout at the Same Time One of my colleagues and I had a discussion not long ago. We turned to the other and teased each other about our Klout score. Mine was lower than her’s, and that was surprising. But the conversation quickly moved from office teasing to a more serious conversation about clout with a “C” and Klout with a “K”, which is a numeric measure of online influence. Clout Basics Explained. When we think about clout with a “C,” my colleague, Sandy, is wise to observe, “We all give people in our lives a “clout” score whether we realize it or not.” Right? MORE >> -
SPIN SUCKS | TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2012 Writing for You…Or the People? A few weeks ago, I came across an OpEd by Ann Patchett , the author. It was in the New York Times and she was lamenting the fact there was no Pulitzer Prize winner in fiction this year. Before I go on, let me be clear I also think it’s a shame there were three finalists, but no Pulitzer Prize winner, too. But the OpEd read like sour grapes to me. When this blog gained a little bit of popularity, we began to have internal conversations about the type of content we should be writing. You see, what I consider the “smart” posts are never the ones that get shared a lot. P.P.S. MORE >> -

KYLE LACY | TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2012 The Future of Digital Marketing in Retail I wanted to give you a sneak peek into new research and a presentation I am giving at a couple of conferences in the next week. FRESHNETWORKS | TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2012 The science of social media ROI Tweet Last week I presented at a webinar as part of a series looking at the science of social , focusing on social media ROI and demystifying the confusion that surround it. The problem with social media ROI is that it is so easy to measure so many things that we become overwhelmed by measures. We think that everything is important and that everything is a measure of ROI. It isn’t. And it isn’t. Followers and Likes do not make ROI; moreover they stop us from thinking about the bigger business benefit of social. How successful are my channels and campaigns? Why are we doing this? MORE >> -
