Can an Algorithm Write a Better News Story than Humans?

Spin Sucks

My dear friend Carmen Benitez sent a story to me a couple of weeks and I’ve had to take that long to really absorb it. You see, it’s about algorithms becoming better storytellers than journalists , and I’m not sure how I feel about it. couple of months ago, I was speaking to a group of business leaders. And now we’re creating algorithms to write stories?

Defining the Need for Middle-Level Thinking

SocialFish

In the Future of Work Manifesto  as well as in Humanize , we mention the concept of “middle-level thinking”  I was asked recently to define this, and I realized that Jamie and I have talked a lot about it over the last few years but it’s probably high time for a refresher on what exactly we’re talking about. Associations seem to be very good at high-level thinking. Humaniz

Facebook Fails are Mounting

SocialFish

Despite the media frenzy over Facebook’s  impending IPO , all isn’t 100% rosy for Facebook. Two things I’ve recently read  highlight what I consider to be pretty big fails on Facebook’s part, and, were I considering investing in Facebook (which I never in a million years would do), would give me pause: Social Readers are collapsing. Who could have called that one?

This Blog Sucks (And You're Probably Not Reading This)

Twist Image

I don't mind that I'm becoming a dinosaur. I'm not going to lie and say that I was shocked to read the DigiDay article, Agencies Ditch Blogs , that they published on Monday. "With the rise of social media, businesses are blogging less. That goes for agencies, too, which are increasingly turning their backs on their blogs in favor of platforms such as Facebook , Twitter , LinkedIn , and newer kids on the block like Instagram and Pinterest." We put ours on hiatus while we figure out what we want to do with it. We do use Facebook and Twitter. We've figured out what works for us there.".

Twitter Chats – Good For Business Or A Wild Public Meeting?

Small Business Mavericks

Twitter chats are a  strange phenomenon that are becoming increasingly popular. According to one news story , advertisers are even willing to pay to sponsor chats (perhaps that opportunity you could consider). So what exactly is a chat, and is it worth following up on? Twitter chats make use of the hash tag to connect like minded people in a chat session. There are some chats that are so popular they resemble a wild public meeting more than a chat session, with Tweets flying in faster than you can read them. Those particular chats have probably gone beyond what is useful for most businesses.

The People Balance Sheet

Engaging Brand

Accounting for people is much more difficult than accounting for profit. Yet people are the value creators.we are much better at thinking about return on investment of machinery than we are of people. tend to think it is more emotional, it is sensitive. Yet if someone cannot answer a simple question of how they bring value into the business, then they are not fully engaged. credit controller is bringing in money to pay the wages, to create the ideas, to sell to the market etc. Of course if we don't measure then we can judge on who we like, on who is easy to manage, on who agrees with us!

Are You Struggling With Pay Per Click Conversions?

Small Business Mavericks

When monitoring a pay per click advertising campaign there are several sets of numbers that are important. Click through rates (CTR) are one area that many advertisers concentrate on with the theory being the more visitors you receive to a site, the more opportunities their are for sales. However, your click through rate needs to be seen as a comparison to several other sets of data, in particular conversion rates and costs per click. On their own, click through rates are a false statistic at the end of the day. Your ad unit has failed to deliver.
