FIREBELLY JUNE 19, 2012 It’s Not Your Facebook Page, It’s You (That’s The Problem) I hear it a lot. “We had/have a Facebook page, but it didn’t/doesn’t do anything.” ” If you’re thinking this right now about your brand’s Facebook page, forgive me for being the bearer of bad news, but your Facebook page is not going to do anything. YOU have to do something… First, YOU have to determine if your audience is on Facebook. | SPIN SUCKS JUNE 19, 2012 Responding (Or Not) to Blog Comments Earlier this year, I traveled to Norway to share a stage with Mitch Joel , Valeria Maltoni , Chris Brogan , and Maggie Fox. During our stay there, we ended up having a conversation about blog comments and replying to them. In fact, it’s a conversation Mitch and I have nearly every time we talk. You see, he writes to write. It’s like a disease for him. Is it Scientific? Mitch is #31. | THE RELATIONSHIP ECONOMY JUNE 19, 2012 Business Fails Without Knowledge The top ten reasons for business failure are due to a lack of knowledge, not a lack of money. When it comes to sharing your thoughts and feelings with the world online and through social media, it’s important to just be yourself. But you should proceed with some caution. There are cases where showing too many of your true colours can get you into trouble. Do be sensitive about current news stories and media events. | | | | | | | | | -
FIFTH GEAR ANALYTICS | TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2012 Frogs or Princes, Whom Are You Trying to Kiss? At this writing, wedding season is in full swing. Even Brangelina have finally announced their intentions to wed. Throngs of people will certainly herd to their wedding locale to catch a glimpse of the first kiss of the newlyweds. What’s that got to do with marketing and sales? While I don’t think that Brad (or Angelina, for that matter) have had to kiss too many frogs during their lifetimes, it’s something that we in B2B sales do every day. We’re constantly reaching out to people who do not have a need for our services and who don’t want to talk to us. If we only knew who they were! MORE >> -

SPIN SUCKS | TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2012 Wal-Mart Case: Don’t Overlook the Institutional Ethics Today’s guest post is written by John-Henry Doucette. . Yesterday Gini Dietrich blogged about the latest Wal-Mart PR debacle , but the subject isn’t quite finished. The quick recap: Wal-Mart, PR firm Mercury Public Affairs, and its former employee Stephanie Harnett are facing a maelstrom of ethical issues after Harnett pretended to be a reporter. Both Wal-Mart and Mercury denied any knowledge of Harnett’s undercover adventures, called it bad business, and she’s no longer on Mercury’s payroll. Good night, everybody! Not so fast. Harnett took notes on his background and concerns. MORE >> -
PUZZLE MARKETER | TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2012 Open Rates Are Not As Telling As You Think It often surprises me when I ask email marketers, “How is your campaign going?” and they answer with something similar to “Very well! Our open rate is 30%, which is above the industry average by 10 percentage points.” I cringe. Not because the open rate isn’t important, but because using it as your key primary indicator (KPI) often misleads your email marketing campaigns. What’s wrong with the open rate metric? It’s not 100% reliable, to say the least. The open rate is counted when a small 1×1 pixel image is loaded by the subscriber’s email client. Simply, the image not loading. Good luck! MORE >> -
