Google+ Page Tips for Nonprofits

SocialFish

I admit I was a bit skeptical when I got an email from a Google rep offering to help set up a Google+ page for ASHA. mean, god knows I’ve never heard of Facebook offering to help organizations with anything, much less brand pages. Also, I am  still kind of lukewarm on Google+ overall. Kevin showed me a cool way to create and add a photo banner to a page.

The Ever-Looming Inbox

Spin Sucks

During this week’s Inside PR (yet to be posted), Joe Thornley , Martin Waxman , and I discuss the ever-looming inbox. You see, I’m a “get it cleaned out every day” kind of person. My Blog Monetization Experiment

Jason Yormark

The hard work of those putting great free content out certainly deserves the opportunity to earn a few bucks in the process.

As Seen On TV - Media Hacking The Tube

Twist Image

How much disruption will the television industry face? New Media pundits made a big mistake when betting against television. Sure, the Internet has put the pain on media platforms like newspapers, magazines and radio, but television is still going strong. Most research firms will tell you that viewership has either maintained or risen in the past few years (and yes, I realize that younger people don't have the same affinity to the platform as the rest of the world), while advertising revenues (still a relevant metric) continue to maintain or rise (slightly). Is this always going to hold up?

The Way of the Web

I’ve been running a personal blog for about 6 years, including early experiments on Blogger. Prior to that I’d had a simple homepage, along with some other static websites to play around with. Relationships In A Socially Connected World

Direct Marketing Observations

In the New York Times recently there was an article titled, My Dinner With Clay Shirky, and What I Learned About Friendship which I highly recommend. The piece was essentially about an authors  dinner experience with noted writer, speaker, and internet ethnographer Clay Shirky. If you don’t know who Clay Shirky is, go to Amazon and read some excerpts from his two books  Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organization  and  Cognitive Surplus: Creativity and Generosity in a Connected Age. The parallels were neat and not lost on me. The point?

Does Your Content Grab People’s Interest?

Small Business Mavericks

The Google Panda update has really made people stop and take stock of the content on their website. Content for the sake of content is going out the door. What’s now needed is content that grabs a reader’s attention. The term ‘quality’ content is often bandied about – and it’s not a term I’m overly fond off since one persons view of ‘quality’ is going to be entirely different to someone else’s. Perhaps we need a new word to describe content – how about engaging, since that appears to be the most popular type of content.

Do you know your augmentation gene?

Engaging Brand

Many say we are in a knowledge economy - for me we have passed through that and in a.well, unsure on the name at the moment but lets say an augmented economy. What do I mean by augmented economy? Well, knowledge is no longer the subject, the product which suffers sparcity, open only to a few. The internet has changed our relationship to knowledge and often that means your consumer has more detailed research on your industry than you do! Knowledge has moved from a sparce product to a service, a service that translates what it possible into tomorrows, reality.TODAY!

How Gordon Ramsay Can Increase Your “Expert” Value by 23,900%

ProBlogger

This guest post is by Amy Harrison of Harrisonamy.com. To the public, not all experts are created equal. What’s more, this division exists in all industries, and in every blogging niche. And it’s not just about working harder, or longer than other people. It’s about knowing how to rise through the ranks of the expert “hierarchy.”. To illustrate, consider for a moment the difference between a chef in a restaurant, a head chef in a five-star restaurant, and then Gordon Ramsay. Between the head chef and Gordon Ramsay, that’s an increase of 23,900%. Most start out as generalists in their careers.
