And judging by the SEOMOz toolbar’s ‘NoFollow’ indicator, the Facebook comments are followed links back to Facebook everytime. There are viable alternatives already out there – for instance Disqus, as used on this blog. Not reward Facebook for doing nothing.

Various software solutions attempt to curb the constant flood of spam comments, for instance Akismet , and most commenting systems also include moderation tools, such as Disqus , which runs here. And the costs always include two main contributors – spam and internet trolls. This removes any search engine value for anyone commenting.

It’s doubtful that the comments have any real benefit to the commenter as most blogs have nofollow links in comments which kill any search ranking benefits and nobody in their right mind will click their links as they’re so obviously spammy.
