To be fair, I’ve only included those I’ve actually used (Radian6, Sysomos, Spiral 16) or tested (Meltwater, SM2). Socialmention.com is basically a social search engine, if the business name is unique it can be a good option. The main pitfall to avoid is flashy graphics for the sake of flashy graphics. That said there are some options.

Maybe you use Twitter to see what’s going on (the real-time search engine approach). Certainly, it’s not a comprehensive influence formula like Klout , or other Twitter-influence arbiters ( interesting study this week from Sysomos ), but it’s easy to calculate, and I think it makes sense. Your Twitter goals may vary.
