Of the top dozen sources of traffic, four were social networking or related sites: Twitter , LinkedIn , Facebook and HootSuite. Twitter is the most productive, driving more than half of all non-blog social media visits. The best syndication sites will vary by industry, so choose sites appropriate for your blog subject manner.

Just because I manage to get 500 visitors a day from an article I submitted to article directories doesn’t mean you can get that much traffic doing the same thing. Let’s take article marketing as an example. Article marketing is one of the oldest and best ways to generate traffic. Build a wiki page for your blog.

This affected anyone who used article marketing as a way to build links and drive traffic to their websites, since article networks were hit the hardest , though some—like HubPages— regained their rankings in subsequent updates. Later, social networks like Digg, Last.fm, and others were affected as well.
