Digg in its new avatar after the takeover has converted into a single page site, and power Digg users would have thousands of diggs and submissions and comments which they might want to backup. | SOSHABLE JANUARY 11, 2011 Reddit vs Digg: A Case Study It needed to be very close to being equally popular on both Digg and Reddit, plus we needed the site owner to be willing to share their analytics data with us. The number of Reddit points was a little higher than the number of Diggs, but comments weren’t even close – over 3X as many on Reddit than Digg. Digg RedditLet’s take a look: The Numbers. | | | | | | | SOSHABLE DECEMBER 20, 2011 4 Things We Expect to See from Digg in 2012 After the debacle of 2010′s V4 launch , many in the industry thought that the site would die a quick death in 2011. As the year comes to a close, Digg is far from dead and is poised for a rebound in 2012. Here’s what we expect (hope) to see from the social news giant: Nothing else will have any meaning if Digg doesn’t turn a profit by the middle of the year. If there’s one reason Digg brought in Matt Williams as CEO, it was his understanding of profitability and advertising development. The site can always use more traffic. | SOSHABLE JULY 31, 2012 The New @Digg Could Be Worse. No it Couldn’t. I told Kevin Rose that he made a huge mistake with Digg v4 a couple of days after launch. He Tweeted some snide remark about how he’d built such a large site and dismissed the warning. told Matt Williams shortly after he took over that he had to get extremely aggressive if his site had any chance of surviving. In short, Digg is officially dead. Here’s why. | SOSHABLE OCTOBER 10, 2012 The Dead Horse, Beaten: Digg is Gone and Never Coming Back Digg is unofficially dead. The tens of millions of pages of content curated by millions of users (and thousands of Digg “addicts” who spent countless hours every day for years finding the best on the web to present to the world through Digg) were wiped out and will never return. This will be the last post on this site about Digg. The attention is gone. | ADAM SHERK JULY 23, 2009 The Most Buried News Sites on Digg Home About Contact PR Publishing SEO Social Media Subscribe Adam Sherk The Most Buried News Sites on Digg by Adam Sherk on July 23, 2009 It’s no secret that mainstream news sites are experiencing increased exposure on social news sites like Digg. Back in March Soshable noted that 46% of the Digg front page is controlled by 50 websites. Major news sites have seen strong increases in social media referral traffic over the past couple years, and Digg continues to be among the top referrers. 403 14 dailymail.co.uk 387 15 telegraph.co.uk | | | | | | | | | -
SOSHABLE | SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 2011 Three Things Digg Needs to Survive: Buzz, Buzz, and Buzz No, Digg is not dead. Recent lack of certain actions have prevented the site from growing at the brisk pace it needs to regain relevance, but it’s not too late. As I posted on FastCompany last month, Digg has until May to get the help (which we’ve offered on multiple occasions free of charge) they need to get back on track or they will miss their last window of opportunity to keep from going the way of Propeller, MySpace, and Yahoo Buzz. Stagnation in the press is the key to failure for sites that are on a popularity slide. Digg does and should. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2011 Kevin Rose Leaves Digg (but he really left long ago) Kevin Rose has resigned from Digg. The founder and former CEO who helped put in place the debacle of Digg V4 is founding a new startup with a $1mil+ round of funding according to Techcrunch. His involvement at the site that put him on the cover of Business Week has been non-existent of late. tweeted him once, asking about a site feature back in January. Will he be tagged as the person who tanked Digg if it fails? Will he be considered the reason it grew but also the reason that if almost failed if Digg is able to come back from this? MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2012 Revisiting @Digg: Despite the Hate, the Quality has Improved Dramatically We’re four and a half months into the new version of Digg. The social news site that was once the darling of technology and business bloggers alike had seen a dramatic downturn in traffic and users over the previous couple of years and there was a lot of excitement about the potential rejuvenation of the site. What came shortly afterwards was a flurry of criticism, a dramatic drop in traffic due to the scrapping of millions of pages that had been indexed in Google, and a loss of individuality – users were no longer really users that engaged with the site. ARI HERZOG | THURSDAY, JANUARY 20, 2011 How to Syndicate Your Blog to Digg It used to be taboo to promote your own blog articles on Digg but, since June 2010 when the social bookmarking site was improved, this is no longer frowned upon. Presuming you have an RSS feed for your blog, you merely have to log into your Digg account and follow the prompts to verify to Digg you are the owner of your blog. In my case, I needed to include a gobbledygook series of letters and numbers in a blog article — eebfd1c39e0044b082ac752b5a2cce45 — which Digg discovered when this was syndicated through RSS. SOSHABLE | TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2009 46% of the Digg Front Page is Controlled by 50 Websites of the Digg front page comes from 50 websites, according to data accumulated on di66.net. With millions of users and over 10,000 submissions per day, the site has been a target for spammers and casual social media enthusiasts who want their content to hit and reap the benefits of tens of thousands of visitors in a short period of time. To combat the “algorithm gamers and “power-users on the site, Digg has launched several measures to discourage the practice of blind digging where users digg hundreds of stories quickly in hopes that others will reciprocate.
