Social media connections are those I know through a variety of online forums, the blogosphere, Twitter, and the like (but I generally don’t befriend someone immediately; I still give it time). The Irony: MySpace Okay, so in my previous paragraph, I mention that you should be an early adopter of social networks.

In the past few weeks, however, even Digg’s other top users are seeing that Digg is becoming more difficult of a social news site to enjoy, and after stepping away from Digg for awhile, I have some thoughts and reflections on how it was and possibly how it should be. The community had to react. Completely.

Without people and their personal relationship information, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter would be reduced to…well…MySpace. But the most egregious error on Apple’s part is the fact that they provide product forums, but don’t allow their employees to participate or comment. Deleting my post!

Plenty of social media professionals have experience that goes back to online bulletin boards, forums on CompuServe, Prodigy, and AOL, and online forums. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube may be the juggernauts right now but remember the days of AOL, CompuServe, MySpace and eBay? Probably not. Email this to a friend?

Social Networking (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc.). Forums and Message Boards (the oldest and second-most commonly used forms of social media).

I see this seminar as a forum. The admin (Professor Macdonald) / moderator (students teaching the class on a given day) create categories of conversation, which are analogous to deciding on forum names/topics and sticky threads. (In In a forum, some threads get “stuck&# to the top and are thus afforded more visibility.

They have discussion forums that are visited by moderators who merely police the content itself, but change never comes from suggestions offered in the forum itself or in the posts, even if hundreds of users contribute the same identical observations.
