| Page 1 of 25 | Previous | Next | SOSHABLE JANUARY 11, 2011 Reddit vs Digg: A Case Study It needed to be very close to being equally popular on both Digg and Reddit, plus we needed the site owner to be willing to share their analytics data with us. The number of Reddit points was a little higher than the number of Diggs, but comments weren’t even close – over 3X as many on Reddit than Digg. Digg RedditLet’s take a look: The Numbers. | CREATIVE RAMBLINGS AUGUST 5, 2012 Social media news: Digg, Facebook, Google, Hootsuite, and YouTube Digg Digg is back! Digg v1, as the new version is called, features a simpler, more visual design with pictures and text, and only three [.]. Facebook Google LinkedIn News Hootsuite social media news YouTubeHere is a quick roundup of some of the latest happenings in the social media world. The social bookmarking platform, which was bought by Betaworks last month, relaunched after a six-week hiatus on Wednesday. | | | | | | | SOSHABLE JULY 31, 2012 The New @Digg Could Be Worse. No it Couldn’t. I told Kevin Rose that he made a huge mistake with Digg v4 a couple of days after launch. As progressions go, I had expected to offer some meaningless after-the-fact advice to the new owners of Digg once they launched “V1″ Unfortunately, I have no advice to give. In short, Digg is officially dead. This was the one great asset that Digg still held. Forever. | SOSHABLE MARCH 19, 2011 Three Things Digg Needs to Survive: Buzz, Buzz, and Buzz No, Digg is not dead. As I posted on FastCompany last month, Digg has until May to get the help (which we’ve offered on multiple occasions free of charge) they need to get back on track or they will miss their last window of opportunity to keep from going the way of Propeller, MySpace, and Yahoo Buzz. That helped to prompt the recent round of Digg-hate from the blogosphere. | SOSHABLE SEPTEMBER 20, 2011 Digg Newsroom Beta May Just Be Enough To Regain Relevance Over the last year since the launch of version 4, Digg has faced challenges in regaining its relevance in social media. It has seemed at times as if Digg may go the way of MySpace, Propeller, and Yahoo Buzz – social sites that were once big news but failed to adapt to a changing social sphere. Today, they launched Digg Newsrooms in limited beta. Traffic is down. | SOSHABLE JULY 13, 2012 Selling Like This May Be The Best Thing (almost) Ever for Digg The only that would have been better for Digg would have been had it sold at its peak rather than it’s downfall, but there is a distinct potential for a silver lining to the news that Digg was sold for parts bit by bit over the past couple of months, culminating in the sub-million purchase of the domain and remaining assets by Betaworks. There are rare things in this world. | | | | | | | | | -
SOSHABLE | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2011 At Digg, There is Hope (and rightfully so) There seems to be a paradigm shift going on over at Digg that hearkens to the cries of users and publishers alike longing for the glory of old. It would appear that for the first time in over a year, Digg senior management is not only listening to the users, they’re acting upon what they’re hearing. Anyone who has followed knows that I’ve been extremely critical of Digg from a few weeks before they launched V4 until very recently. For the first time in over 7 months, I’m strongly encouraged about Digg’s future. Digg heard. MORE >> -
NOWSOURCING | FRIDAY, JULY 13, 2012 RIP Digg: Enter the New Social Media Frontier If you were a top Digg user, you had clout (not klout, that’s for newbies, stick with me here) in the newly emerging Web 2.0 Digg, the once frontrunner of the pack, started mindlessly catering to the publishers only. And now Digg’s been sold. Digg has been sold to BetaWorks for 500k (ok maybe more like 16million if you count the IP rights with LinkedIn and Washington Post ). Don’t forget one of the biggest potential moments for Digg with a whopping $200 million Google acquisition that was rumored to be on the table. Early Times. world. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2009 7 Reasons Why I Won’t Tweet Diggbar Links Ever Again… Regardless of what anyone at Digg says, this was just wrong. Below is my version of the definition as it fits with what Digg has done: In social media, a bait and switch is a form of fraud in which the website putting forth the fraud lures in users by promoting their service as a portal to great content, then reveals to the user that the functionality has been changed but that substitute content is available. We were pulled in because it was easy to use, helped to promote strong content, and displayed the source to everyone who clicked on it, Digg user or not. Blast. MORE >> -
ADAM SHERK | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 2012 Publisher Survey: Reddit Traffic Way Up, Digg Way Down The rise of Reddit and the steady decline of Digg have been well documented. Anecdotally we’ve all seen Reddit gain in prominence at a time when Digg has struggled to maintain its relevancy. So I pulled the 2009-2011 Reddit and Digg referral figures for selection of 12 major magazine and Web-only content sites. First a look at the total combined traffic for all 12 sites in 2009-2011: The trend lines tell the story loud and clear: traffic from Reddit is way up and traffic from Digg is way down. Conversely Digg dropped from 31+ million in 2009 down to 4.6 MORE >> -
LOUIS GRAY | SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 2011 For Digg and Other Web Services, 5 Years Can Be a Lifetime TechCrunch's Sarah Lacy practically writes an epitaph today for Digg following news that the company's cofounder Kevin Rose, the face of the company since its inception, had resigned to pursue a new and unannounced startup. The backdrop of her story is a detailed article she wrote on Rose and the Digg phenomenon back in 2006, when she, then writing for BusinessWeek, placed Kevin on the cover with a youthful grin and headline blaring how he was worth $60 million. That Kevin had shifted priorities away from Digg some time ago was no secret to those who watched. Same people. MORE >> -
