Directory form, www.google.com/product(/). Convert to directory form, www.google.com/product(/), 301s. First off, I’m very happy that they are aware of the 301/302 redirecting issue and can handle it when we redirect our domain names or URLs from an old URL to a new URL using a 301 Permanent Redirect.

Let me explain, in more detail, what is happening and what is becoming an increasingly common practice in the web hosting industy: When you set up a website, you pay for two things: a domain name and web hosting. There are several benefits if done correctly with the main ones being: You can have various keyword-rich domain names that are highly valued by Google. There is no reason for certain directories on your web site to be crawled. Owning multiple domain names and they all are mirrors of your main website. Pick one domain name and set up a 301 Permanent Redirect from ALL the others to your main web site’s home page. No Robots.txt file. You have one main web site.

Even though this concept looks similar to social bookmarking sites like Digg and Reddit, it operates differently. The articles that make it to the front page are not determined by the authors who submit them, or dependent on the domain name of the author’s site.
