This is not intended to be a comprehensive list or a definitive ranking. But just how much traffic is it currently driving to publishers?

Ok fans could care less about that, but for myself and some sports and social media marketers out there it’s an interesting question. In my post on the most popular NBA teams on Twitter and Facebook (and the more recent one on MLB teams ) I looked strictly at the following each team has built up. Thanks for sharing that insight.

Here’s another question: Would you foot the bill to give users free access to coverage of your company or clients? But that would cause all kinds of problems, not the least of which the publications’ editorial integrity being called into question. I definitely agree with your tree falling in the forest comparison.

That’s not an easy question to answer without having access to each site’s analytics data and knowing their goals and objectives. So there may definitely be some other new media sites with engagement scores that are competitive with this group, or even higher. So which news sites are getting the most out of their social media efforts?

Only the news organizations themselves can fully answer that question; their own analytics data combined with internal estimates of the value of fans and various actions will paint the clearest picture.
