I don’t look at every list every time I use Facebook; but I peruse through the lists, on average, more frequently than I scroll through the bigger news feed. By following more and curating everyone, I find order in chaos.

For instance, here is a curated list of people I’ve met offline. This is unfollowing so all of their wall updates now appear on lists and not selected algorithmic updates on my news feed. My news feed now only shows those people who call or text me on a regular basis. This is not unfriending.

It was very hard for me to engage with anyone since my feed was full of people I didn’t know. Lists enable me to curate my timeline with people to respond. I have lists (both my own that I curated and others’ that I subscribe to) but I never correlated following someone to listing someone.
