But in going through the site a substantial portion of the content is news so I opted to include it. Also surprised how well some magazines did.

Articles need to be “objective news” to lead a story cluster (op-ed, satire, press releases and subscription content are not eligible to lead clusters). Duplication and Novelty Detection – More credit is given to original sources of content. To get your videos into Google News you need to create a YouTube channel.

This gives publishers the opportunity for greater exposure to users looking for content from their specific site (and who may not be familiar with the “site:” search operator). News brands seem to fare better with the embedded video listings, although I also came across several examples (not pictured above) in which YouTube got both results.

Whether it is individual releases or your entire newsroom, hosting on PitchEngine means that the content is not on your site, so your domain loses the SEO benefit of the links pointing to that content. The contest was hosted on YouTube, and therefore the videos lived on YouTube. However there is also a downside.
