While you’re at it, take a photo of that person’s business card through the app and connect your Evernote account with Linkedin. It will also prompt you to connect with them on Linkedin Attach notes about the meeting to the note in Evernote and you’ve got a great reference for the next time you meet.

Of course there are the obvious apps like Linkedin , Facebook , Skype etc. Publish a magazine style page on any topic you like, then populate it with content you curate from your desktop or your mobile device. Do they get comments and do people share their content through social media? Gather links for their Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Linkedin profiles at a minimum. Did they only write one post that is relevant or do they have several? Do they seem to have knowledge in this are? Do they have similar beliefs or are they open to discussion?

If I was completely independent or establishing my personal brand, yes, they’re fun and yes, I could even put out consistent content such as answering questions, etc. But I don’t tend to use any of these apps regularly because I have not found them relevant to my work. However, my professional role has evolved.

While it’s important to be on the major social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, it really hit home for me in the past year that it’s important to cast a wider net since your target audience may be hanging out on other sites as well. Wish there was a way to say I like your content without being spammed.
