Once Google took it over it just wasn’t reliable. If, like many people you never migrated your Feedburner account to Google you don’t even have to now. I migrated my clients from Feedburner some time ago because the service was getting a little sketchy. Sometimes the feed would work, sometimes it would appear to be empty.

In those cases a click on the search icon will show you a Google search of LinkedIn with a list of people in that industry. Not all users allow LinkedIn to share their data. Those will show up as anonymous. Some may show their industry affiliation and that’s it. It won’t tell you who viewed your profile.

If the influencer is blogging, look up the page rank of their blog on Google to get an idea of how popular the site is. Do they seem to have knowledge in this are?

Lots of people see this as a good thing, (including me) as FBML has lots of quirks and any coder is doing back flips to be able to design real PHP pages and deliver content in a frame instead of having to thread it through all the FBML and strip out a lot of the functionality they could be offering on a typical web page. Coca-Cola aligned their mission with women and heart-health and the fans produced all of the content. Even though they’re not official on Facebook we still use them there as well as Pinterest, Twitter Tumblr, Flickr and Google+. On Instagram it generated 5,274 uploads and the Diet Coke Instagram account topped 22,000 followers.

I went into my Google reader and deleted every blog that hadn’t posted within the last 30 days. That doesn’t mean you don’t have to engage directly but it gives you the freedom to schedule these all at once and have them go out over time so you don’t have to constantly be online just to post content.

If I was completely independent or establishing my personal brand, yes, they’re fun and yes, I could even put out consistent content such as answering questions, etc. Problem with the latter is people on Twitter just troll through streams. I’m easy to find on both.
